This is a fairly close, I hope :), translation of the letter from Peter Christoffersen. There are some sentences that sounds a bit odd to me, but they were written in "Old Danish", using phrases not used anymore. If you have suggestions for a better translation, let me know :). He is using more "ands" than I would.

I, the undersigned, take the liberty to send you some information about our son, who was killed during the Great War. We have been brought to knowledge that you wish to have names of Danish men, who were killed during the War. Our son, Sergeant Axel Peter Christoffersen, born in Faurby, Hylleholt Parish, July 18th 1894, came to America at the age of 14 in 1908 and joined the Marines and joined the War in 1917 and took part in several battles. During four days of heavy artillery, he was hit by a German shrapnel, and was killed instantly. It was 20 yards north of the La Blanche Farmhouse, situated at the road which leads from Chateau Cherry to Paris. It was on June 13th 1918 he was killed.
