In the nearby village of Lucy-le-Bocage, south-west of Bois de Belleau, was one of only two water sources for the 5th USMC. A bridge, right outside the village, over a small stream, was used as a dressing station for treatment of the wounded from Bois de Belleau. They were brought along the stream from the Bois de Belleau to the bridge for treatment.
