Bois de Belleau

MAP

The wood was bought by the Americans after the war, and is now a memorial area. Between the trees, you can still see the trenches and fox-holes from the three German lines. A lot of the trees are still clearly marked by bullets and pieces of shrapnel.

On the northside is the cemetery with 2289 graves, of which 251 are unknown soldiers. A chapel has a further 1060 names of missing people listed on it's walls.
